Haiku Poem – Water Safety
At the beginning of the term, Mrs Agnew taught us about haiku poems. They are special Japanese poems that have 5 syllables at the first sentence, 7 at the second and 5 at the last. Here is my haiku poem:
Very cold water
Getting pushed under, scary
Having lots of fun :]
Mission Day!!!
Last Friday was Mission Day. The whole school was able to wear their own clothes with the price of $1. Thankfully, Mrs Agnew was very kind to help us pay for our mufti. At the start of the day we went to mass, there was even a new priest! On the way back to class, we all saw a dead rat and we got disgusted.
After mass, everyone set up their stalls and right after that, everyone started crowding at the crochet stand (even I did). Me and Ruzzel came across a raffle stall where it’s $3 a ticket and if you win, you get to win a rugby ball! The people working at the stall were begging me and Ruzzel to get a ticket and they would give us 1000 robux, but we all knew it was a scam.
We had morning tea and quickly went shopping while the other groups would work at the stall (we would take turns). While I was shopping with me and my friends, we all went to the crochet stall at the same time and I even bought a black and white crochet jellyfish! We all ate a lot of candies such as lollipops, gummies and starburst so we all had sugar rushes and were very loud and crazy. I ate only a bit of candy though.
After a bit of working and a lot of playing, shopping, eating and drinking, we all went back to class. Ms Kyle even let us watch a movie called “Pete’s Dragon” while eating popsicles. I was the last one to finish my popsicle because my teeth would hurt if I bite it. We did not have enough time to finish the whole movie because we had to gather under the canopy to see who won the raffle draw (Angelina even won a bike)! Some of my friends won and I was very happy for them. Sadly, the bell rang and we all had to go home. We all had a blast!
Cycling Day
Last Thursday, we went cycling, and it was great fun. We wore blue helmets and we all took one bike each. Stephanie was our bike coach, she helped us a lot.
All of us went to the top court to practise a bit.
After that, the people who still needed some more practice and were not confident enough went under the canopy (Ruzzel, my Sister, John and me). Mrs. Agnew taught us how to scoot the bike without using the pedals. We had a fun idea to bring the bike up the ramp and glide down. Our bikes went very fast and we had a blast.
A little bit before lunch, all our bottoms were hurting so we agreed to take a long break and eat a lot of delicious oranges and apples. The bell rang and we all had our lunch. The bikes were gone after that.
My favourite part of the cycling lesson was when we went down the ramp on our bikes. In the future, I would like to learn how to pedal the bike without falling at all.
Wednesday
During Wednesday, the other people in my class went to the Rippa Rugby tournament while me and my other Year 4 friends and Thalia did not go. The other people from other classes who did not go went to Room 6 (me and my friends class). I made 2 new friends from room 8 named Nicole and Angel who also knew how to crochet just like my sister and we all sat at the same table. During our free time, they all crocheted while I read a book for crocheting is too frustrating for me. After that, we all went outside for a while to think of things we could see, hear, smell and feel. When we went back inside, we wrote what we could see, hear, smell and feel and copied it down on Google slides. We all did more after that (which I could not remember). Overall, we all had a blast and a very great day because we did many fun activities.
Paris Olympics 2024
The athlete I chose to write about is Yeo Jia Min, and this is what I found out about her. She is 25 years old and her country of origin is Singapore. Her sport is Badminton. She has already won 2 bronze medals, 3 silver and 4 gold but not at these Olympics. The venue and dates she was in for the Paris Olympics 2024 was La Chapelle Arena Court 1 on 27 Jul 2024 and La Chapelle Court 2 on 31 Jul 2024. Jia Min was also the first badminton player to reach the junior world rank 1.
Last week we looked at art by an American artist called Keith Haring. His drawings were simple outline of people. He started drawing in the subways. The whole class would make some artwork about their athlete they chose in Keith Haring’s art style. I chose green and yellow for the background, blue for athlete and orange for the equipment that the athlete is holding.
This is me with my art.
My Taonga
I was excited when I heard that we were going to make a Taonga which means a treasure in Maori, I made a heart. It represents my family such as my grandparents and cousins back in the Philippines. We made it with modelling clay. First, we shaped the clay into the shape we wanted and put a hole for the string, then we waited for it to dry. After that I painted it green so that it would look like jade. Finally, we put a string through the hole that we made so that it would look like a necklace. Mrs Yumul helped us glue it to the background.
